Executive National Sales Director

Mary Kay Ash, Founder

Mary Kay Ash

Over the years, there have been many successful business leaders. But none has had as unique a story as the legendary Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Inc., who passed away November 22, 2001. Famously ebullient and personally warm, the chairman emeritus was not only a role model, but an inspiration to her Mary Kay independent sales force. With warm hugs and words of wisdom, Mary Kay represented a role model and a source of encouragement to the women who sell Mary Kay products. Still one of the few female Horatio Alger Award recipients who hails from the business world, Mary Kay Ash left an indelible mark on American business and on opportunities open to women.

Saying that her idea of P&L is "people and love" rather than "profit and loss,"
Mary Kay nevertheless powered a corporate colossus. Since 1963, Mary Kay Inc. has grown from 9 original sales force members to an independent sales force numbering over 950,000. Mary Kay does business in 37 markets on five continents and nearly $1.6 billion in wholesale sales worldwide. Mary Kay also ranks #1 among the best-selling brands of facial skin care and color cosmetics in the United States since 1993.

Try, try again. "If I were to sum up my Mary Kay career in one thought, it would be that success is not a race, but the sum total of many successes and failures." Independent Elite Executive National Sales Director Barbara Sunden says. Throughout her career, Barbara experienced many of both.

She started her career with running shoes on; they stopped when her son was born. Later, she wanted something to do in her spare time. "I thought about doing back to work as a hairdresser two days a week," she recalls. "Little did I know that opportunity was knocking in my closet. My Mary Kay career was waiting for me, but I just didn''t recognize it."

Back on the track, she jumped over many hurdles and tripped over others. "I adopted the philosophy of try until you can't try anymore, and then try again. But as I look back at the past years, I can't help but notice how I have changed." Barbara says. "At that time, I was a quiet and shy person with little or no confidence. Today I know that it's not the length of the journey, but what you learn on the way."

Executive Senior Sales Director

Ruth Everhart

Ruth Everhart

Before joining Mary Kay, Ruth earned her college degree in Marketing and went to work for Corporate America thinking she would climb the corporate ladder, earn a good income and live the American dream. Ruth first heard about Mary Kay in the early 90's when her sister-in-law mentioned she met a woman that earned over $100,000 a year in Mary Kay without a college degree. her name is Vivian Diaz. This got Ruth's attention as she wasn't even earning one-third of this income with her degree. Ruth was introduced to Vivian and the Mary Kay products after her sister-in-law became a consultant. She quickly fell in love with the products and started her won MK business in 1993 because she didn't want to have to return to her full-time corporate job once she began having children. After working her Mary Kay business for one year, Ruth stopped in 1994 for various reasons.

Then, 12 years later in May 2006, Vivian called Ruth up on the phone one day and encouraged her to rejoin Mary Kay for a second time. After much hesitation, Ruth rejoined Mary Kay, but only to get her products at a discount. Ruth almost didn't restart her Mary Kay business at that time because she didn't believe she could be successful, and she was afraid to start and stop Mary Kay for a second time. She reluctantly agreed to have her first skin care party in September 2006 when Vivian offered to drive 3 hours to her home and do it for her. Ruth is SO glad she decided to give Mary Kay a second try as she has earned the following in two years time:

  • The privilege of attending the Million $$ Weekend in Dallas, Texas with MK's Top Million $$ Directors
  • 3 Gold Medals
  • The Pontiac Vibe in Mary Kay in 2007
  • Queens Court of Sales at Seminar 2007 and Seminar 2008, and Queen of Consultant Sales in the Barbara Sunden area at Seminar 2007
  • Debuted as an Independent Sales Director on August 2007
  • She and her team earned the Pink Cadillac SRX in September 2007 (in her second month of directorship, and just one year and one day from the date she held her first party)
  • She was the #1director at New Sales Director Training in Dallas in October 2007 in the Diamond Division
  • She became a Senior Sales Director in March 2008, and will soon be an Executive Senior Director when the two DIQ's in her unit finish Directorship.
  • She earned Rookie of the Year in the Barbara Sunden area, Fabulous 50's, Honor's Society and Dean's List during her first year as a director.
  • She and her unit achieved the $450,000 Unit Club in their first 11 months as a unit. Her highest commission check has been over $9, 500 in one month.
  • She thanks God, her soon to be NSD, Vivian Diaz, her amazing team of consultants, and her family. Ruth has two wonderful children, Rachel and Matthew, and the most supportive, encouraging husband in the world, Glen. He is looking forward to early retirement thanks to Mary Kay!
